MAHMOD RAQI/ASADABAD (Pajhwok): Twenty six Taliban and five Islamic State fighters have been killed in separate operations and airstrikes in eastern of Kunar and northeastern Kapisa provinces, officials said Sunday.
Seventeen Taliban militants have so far been killed during security operations since yesterday in Badar Ab area of Tagab district of Kapisa province, said the district police chief, Mohammad Naeem.
He told Pajhwok Afghan News another six Taliban militants were wounded in the operations which were still in progress in the district.
A tribal elder in Badar Ab area, Haji Malang, said aircrafts hovered over their area throughout Saturday night. He said six Taliban were killed an airstrike on Saturday afternoon.
In eastern Kunar province, US forces pounded Taliban militants during an airstrike on Saturday night in Shotalo Sar area of the Manogi district, Kunar police spokesman Faridullah Dehqan said.
He said three militants were killed and a fourth wounded in the airstrike.
Military spokesman in Kunar Maj Haroon Yousafzai told Pajhwok that the foreign forces had also conducted an airstrike in Kalai Gul area of Manogi district, killing five Islamic State rebels.
The two insurgent groups have said nothing about the airstrikes.
