Pyne and General Campbell also held talks with Defence Minister Tariq Shah Bahrami and Scott Miller, commander of the NATO-led Resolute Support mission.
According to the Australian, Pyne wore an armoured vest during the visit. He was in Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates for two days this week.
Pyne appreciated Australian forces for their service in Afghanistan, where they lost 41 military personnel so far.
He said: “My message to troops is that your work is vitally important to Australia’s national security interests and you are achieving so much despite the massive challenges you face.”
