MoD reshuffles top security officials in northern zone

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Some important transfers and postings were announced in Public Order Police (POP) and border police leadership in the north of the country on Sunday.

Col. Zabihullah Ghorzang was appointed as new commander of the 7th brigade of Public Order Police (POP). He previously served as POP commander in Baghlan province.

Former POP commander Gen. Hasibullah Qureshi was appointed as general commander of border police in the northern zone.

Similarly, Col. Mohammad Jan Mohammad was named as new commander of border police for the 6th brigade in the northern Zone. He has served as POP battalion commander in Zabul province.

At an introduction ceremony, Director-General of Military Operations (DGMO) Lt. Gen. Habibullah Hesari called the reshuffle an important step toward promoting good governance.

He said the transfer of responsibility to border and POP police was aimed to ensure coordination among the security personnel.

The newly-appointed officials promised taking serious measures for strengthening security in the north.
