US forces say assessing Helmand airstrike

KABUL on Tuesday said they were assessing incident of Afghan forces suffering casualties in foreign forces airstrike in the Nad Ali district of southern Helmand province.

“As Afghanistan’s Ministry of Defense said this afternoon, there was a serious incident yesterday in Loy Mandeh in Helmand province involving Afghan and US forces,” a statement quoted Grant Neeley, US Forces – Afghanistan spokesman, as saying.

“We are assessing the incident with our Afghan partners to prevent a recurrence,” the spokesman said.

Source said on Monday a suspected US airstrike killed one Afghan soldier and injured 29 others including police.

A government source in Helmand told Pajhwok that American forces carried out the airstrike in the limits of Nad Ali district.
