AIBAK (Pajhwok): Local officials on Wednesday said a key Taliban commander was killed during a clash with security forces in Hazrat Sultan district of central Samangan province.
Munir Rahimi, provincial police chief, said Mullah Taza Gul, the Taliban commander for Hazrat Sultan district, was killed during a clash with Afghan Local Police (ALP) forces in Taikhonak area of the district late Tuesday.
Two ALP members were also killed in the clash, he said.
Security situation in Dara-i-Suf Payeen and Dara-i-Suf Bala districts of Samangan has recently deteriorated.
A day earlier, Taliban fighters killed several police including Samangan’s deputy police chief, Col. Khawani, in Dara-i-Suf Payeen district.
