KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Recent clashes and incidents of violence in the Imam Sahib district of northern Kunduz province forced over 1,000 families to displaced, an official said on Thursday.

District Chief Mahboob Saeedi told Pajhwok Afghan News the government has not yet provided assistance to the displaced families but the survey was being conducted.

“Due to clashed, around 1,000 families from five villages have been displaced from their houses and no aid was provided to them by the local and central government,” he said.

Khalid Hakemi, the Provincial Council member, said two civilians had been killed and five others injured as a result of recent clashes in Imam Sahib district.

“In Aqi Bai, Abfaroshan, Baghmal Kocha and other villages around 1,000 families have been displaced and around 100 homes were destroyed due to the bombardment,” Hakimi said.

Amruddin Walli, another Provincial Council member, said people in the Imam Sahib district suffered human and financial losses due to airstrikes.

“We visited these villages, people suffered casualties and huge financial losses and the residents of these areas are poor and don’t have the financial ability to rehabilitated their homes,” he said.

Walli asked the government to support the resident in the rehabilitation of their homes and provided them aid.

Qurban Ali, a displaced person, said no government or other authorities have not reached to them.

Salam Hashami, head of the Refugees and Repatriation Department, said the survey of displaced persons in Imam Sabib district was underway and assistance to the displaced persons would be provided soon.
