MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Women who lost limbs to bomb blasts in northern Balkh province on Tuesday urged the warning parties to end the ongoing conflict in the country.

The disabled women assembled in Mazar-i-Sharif, the provincial capital, in connection with International Day of Peace, a United Nations-sanctioned holiday observed on September 21.

The women stressed that disabled individuals were not incapable people and the government should to give them role in political decisions of the country.

At the gathering, a photo exhibition depicting the lives of disabled people was also arranged.

Parwana Sama Samadi, who heads Balkh Disabled Women’s Union, told Pajhwok Afghan News the culture of treating people with disabilities as inferior should come to an end.

She added disabled women were clear examples of human rights’ violations and the photo exhibition might help people learn and try their best to end the ongoing conflict in the country.

She further said in wars all human rights were trampled on and a civilized and educated society could be developed only in peace.

Samadi said so far the government had paid no attention to problems being faced by disabled women who suffered from difficulties in their lives.

She said there were 100 disabled women in their union, with some holding bachelor’s degrees, but they were discriminately denied jobs.

A number of other disabled women expressed similar views and urged the government to pay strongly attention to their problems.
