US soldier killed in insider attack identified as former Utah mayor

KABUL soldier who was killed in insider attack on Saturday in Kabul identified as Brent Taylor who also served as the mayor of North Ogden, Utah, a media report said on Sunday.

According to the CNN, Taylor, the mayor of North Ogden, Utah, and an energetic and beloved figure in Utah politics, was killed Saturday in an incident in Afghanistan, where he was serving as a member of the state National Guard.

The unexpected death of Taylor, who was months from finishing his tour and is survived by seven children and his wife Jennie, drew an outpouring of grief in Utah and on social media late Saturday.

US Forces in Afghanistan in a statement confirmed the killing of One US service member and injuring another in an apparent insider attack in Kabul.

Initial reports indicated the attacker was a member of the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces.  Initial reports also indicate the attacker was immediately killed by other Afghan Forces.

The two US service members were medically evacuated to Bagram Airfield.  The wounded service member is undergoing medical treatment and is in stable condition, according to the statement.
