US, donors reaffirm support to transparent elections in Afghanistan
KABUK (Pajhwok): The US principal deputy assistant secretary for South and Central Asian affairs Alice Wells and National Security Advisor (NSA) Hamdullah Mohib have discussed elections, peace process and security matters during a meeting here, according to a statement on Monday.
Alice Wells met Mohib in his office and discussed security, peace process, regional cooperation in the fight against terrorism and regional trade, the NSA’s office said in a statement.
Both sides exchanged views on the Afghan-led Afghan-owned peace process and regional cooperation.
Mobib thanked the US for its continued support from Afghan security and defense forces.
According to another report, Wells also met with former NSA Mohammad Hanif Atmar late on Sunday, his office said in a statement.
Atmar and the US diplomat discussed the peace process, security, and elections. Both the dignitaries shared their views and stressed the need to continue discussions.
On the other hand, Alice Wells met Idress Zaman, the deputy of foreign affairs ministry and discussed peace, Geneva conference and economic issues.
The US top diplomat had brief talks with President Ashraf Ghani as well.
