KABUL Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology (MoCIT) said on Thursday.
The ministry in a statement said Afghanistan being a strategically located country has the potential to become a transit route for transferring information technology between China, Central Asia, Europe and Africa by completing the Wahkhan corridor fiber optic project.
Discussion in this regard took place during a meeting between Afghanistan Telecom and Information Technology Minister Shahzada Aryoubi and his Chinese counterpart Chen Zhao Xiong.
Expanding cooperation between Kabul and Beijing, the digital Silk Road project, economic cooperation came up for discussion during the meeting.
Aryoubi said the Afghan government had completed survey on implementation of Wahkhan fiber optic project.
“The Chinese government has offered to provide funds for the project,” according to the statement.
The Chines information technology minister said that they will soon inform the Afghan government about the approval of the project financing.
