Firewood, gold, ghee prices up in Kabul

KABUL (Pajhwok): The prices of firewood, Russian gold and ghee have increased while other essential items’ rates remain stable during the outgoing week in capital Kabul, market sources said Saturday.

Khan Mohammad, a firewood seller in Charahi Shaheed area of Kabul told Pajhwok Afghan News the price of 560 kilograms of peeled oak increased from 6,800 Afghanis to 7,000 Afghanis and the same quantity of cedar from 6,600afs to 6,800afs.

He linked the hike in firewood price to high demand as the weather is getting colder.

However, the prices of fuel and gas remain stable.

Abdul Hadi, a worker in Wazirabad Fuel Station, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the price of one liter of petrol cost 57afs and the same amount of diesel 55afs, the same rates of last week’s.

Ahmad Javid, a liquefied gas seller in Taimani area of Kabul, said the price of one kilogram of the commodity stood at 65afs.

In food items, the price of only ghee has slightly increased.

Food Traders Union head in Kabul, Fazal Rahman, said that the price of a tin of16 liter of Khurshid ghee increased from 1,020afs to 1,050afs.

However, he said 49 kilograms of Pakistani sugar cost 1,740afs, 50 kilograms of Kazakhstani flour 1,340afs and 24-kg of Pakistani rice 2,020afs, the same prices of last week’s.

Noor Ahmad Khairkhwa, a tea seller in Kabul Mandavi, said a kilogram of Indonesian green tea cost 280afs and the same amount of African black tea 300afs -- same prices as last week’s.

Ahmad Wali Panjsheri, who owns a grocery store in Dahn-i-Bagh area of Kabul, sold a 50-kg sack of Kazakhstani flour for 1,400afs, a 49-kg bag of sugar for 1,800afs, 24-kg of Pakistani rice 2,400afs a 16-litre tin of ghee for 1,150afs, one-kg of Indonesian green tea for 300afs and the same amount of black African tea for 350afs—higher than wholesale rates.

Haji Fawad Ahmad Salehzada, a jeweler in Timor Shahi area of Kabul, said the price of one gram of Russian gold was increased from 1,900afs to 1,950afs while the same quantity of Arabian variety stood at 2,450afs.

According to Haji Mir Hussain Sadaqat, owner of Sadaqat Money Exchange Services in Kabul, one US dollar accounted for 75.65afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees 566afs against last week’s 75.27afs and 572afs.
