TARINKOT (Pajhwok): At least 29 Taliban insurgents, including two notorious commanders have been killed during a joint operation in the Deh Rawud district of central Uruzgan province, officials said on Tuesday.
Lt. Col. Mohammad Sadiq Isa, spokesman for 205th Atal Military Corps, told Pajhwok Afghan News national army, national police and National Directorate of Security (NDS) personnel conducted operation in the district on Sunday night.
Isa said 12 insurgents were killed and several others wounded in an air raid in the district. Foreign forces also supported the raid, he said, adding heavy and light weapons belonging rebels also destroyed during the airstrike.
Col. Abdul Wali, fourth brigade commander for the military corps, said the details of the joint operation conducted in Deh Rawud district had not been shared with them so far.
But district police chief Shah Mohammad the joint security forces launched operation in Miando area of the district late on Sunday night.
He said 29 militants had been killed, including two notorious commanders, named Mullah Janan and Abid.
On the other hand, Taliban insurgents claimed that at least 20 had been suffered casualties during the operation in the district.
But the police chief rejected the militants’ claim.
