28 Taliban militants killed in Ghazni clashes

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): At least 28 Taliban militants have been killed during clashes with security forces in four districts of southern Ghazni province, officials said on Wednesday.

The clashes took place last night in Muqur, Ab Band, Gilan and Andar districts, said Ghazni police chief Brig Gen. Daud Tarakhel.

He said 28 rebels were killed and scores of others wounded in the clashes. He said foreign forces had reached Khwaja Omari, Muqur and Qarah Bagh districts, advising local forces.

“We fight and they (foreign forces) just give advises,” he said, adding a number of areas were cleared of the Taliban’s presence as a result of the operations.

A resident of Andar district’s Chahar Dewal area, Naeemullah, said many areas had recently become insecure in the province. “The Taliban are there in most of the areas, they are clashes everywhere.”

But the Taliban rejected any clashes had taken place in Gilan, Muqur and Ab Band districts last night.

However, the group spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said five fighters were killed in Andar district during a clash.

A day earlier, three American soldiers were killed and as many wounded in a roadside bombing in Shehbaz area of Ghazni City.
