LASHKARGAH/PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Security forces freed eleven civilians from a Taliban prison during a nighttime operation in the Sangin district of southern Helmand province, the Afghan military said Saturday.

Afghan commando forces raided the Taliban’s detention facility in Sangin district on Friday night and released 11 shackled civilians, Afghan National Army’s 215 Maiwand Military Corps deputy spokesman Maj. Abdul Wali told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the security forces demolished the prison.

Elsewhere in northern Baghlan province, security forces repulsed Taliban attacks on their posts in Nahrin and Baghlan-i-Markazi districts on Friday night, said provincial police chief Brig. Gen. Ikramuddin Sari.

He said the rebels staged the attacks on security posts in Hafiz Bacha area of Nahrin district and Ghulam Bai area of Baghlan-i-Markazi district. He said three Taliban attackers and one local policeman were killed in the firefight.

The Taliban have so far said nothing in this regard.
