Kandahar residents complain high air ticket price

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): The residents of southern Kandahar province have complained against high air ticket price as insecurity, dilapidated roads and other transportation issues forces them to travel by air to other parts of the country, including Kabul.

They demanded the central government and airline companies to consider the economic condition of the people and decide on air ticket price accordingly.

Taj Mohammad, the resident of Kandahar province, told Pajhwok Afghan News insecurity, dilapidated roads and other issues forced him to travel by air.

All the surrounding problems had provided airlines the best opportunity of profit, he noted.

He said ordinary government servants had to travel by air due to security issue but the rate of one way ticket was higher from his monthly salary.

He said in a country like Afghanistan, when the people suffer economically the higher rate of air tickets was unfair.

Naseer Ahmad, another resident of Kandahar province, said only two airline companies conducted flights from Kandahar and they have no competition and got maximum advantages of public needs.

The economic condition of people is not stable and people could not afford to pay 15,000 Afghanis on two way flight.

Haji Abdullah, head of the Kandahar Tourism Companies, said he shared these problems with government officials and airline companies several times.

He added the government officials did not listen and believed it was an open market system and they could not interfere in this matter.

The two-way ticket of Aryana Airline from Kabul to New Delhi is 19,000 Afghanis while from Kandahar to New Delhi is 34,000 Afghanis.

The Provincial Council Head Haji Syed Jan Khakrezwal said people often complained against high rate of air tickets to them and added the issue was shared with provincial and central government but no step had been taken for its resolution.
