KABUL) on Wednesday said the next presidential election would likely be delayed in order brining reforms and address shortages in the electoral regime.
IEC spokesman Zabihullah Sadat told Pajhwok Afghan News that the presidential election, earlier scheduled for April 20, would possibly be delayed by one and a half or two months.
The IEC has earlier set April 20 the date for holding Wolesi Jirga elections in Ghazni province and the presidential election.
Sadat said the presidential ballot would be delayed following suggestions of donors, the government and politicians for the sake of reforms and addressing shortages in the IEC.
He did not provide an exact new date for the election; but said holding all the four elections simultaneously, including presidential, provincial council, district council and Wolesi Jirga in Ghazni province needed more time for better management.
“The government and politicians want voter registration and voting process to be based on biometric system which it also needs time”, he concluded.
