Heratis welcome harsh action against armed robbers

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): The residents of this capital city of western Herat province on Tuesday welcomed police’s harsh action against armed robbers, saying it would decrease crimes and security incidents.

The residents also urged security forces to punish all individuals who played with people’s lives and usurped their properties.

Mohammad Younus, a resident of Herat City, told Pajhwok Afghan News that police now used to open fire at armed robbers, which they highly appreciated. “If police shoot three or four armed robbers dead, it would serve a great lesson for the rest.”

Shafiq Jamshidi, another resident, said instead of sentencing robbers to jail terms after their arrest, police should target them.

A number of the Provincial Council members called for open trial of detained armed robbers and urged the judicial organs to award severe punishment to such individuals.

Wakil Ahmad Korkhi, a member of the council, told Pajhwok they had already demanded harsh action against armed robbers.

Muhiuddin Noori, the acting governor of Herat, said any type of crime and security incident would not be tolerated based on the Ministry of Interior’s decision that armed robbers would be dealt with harshly if they disrupted the city’s security system.

Experts also believe taking strong action against armed robbers would decrease crimes in the province.
