KABUL (HPC) Secretary Mohammad Omar Daudzai has urged the Chinese government to play its role in the Afghan reconciliation process.
Sayed Ehsan Tahiri, HPC spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Daudzai, also the president’s special representative on regional consensus, issued the call at a meeting with China’s deputy foreign minister.
Tahiri said Deng Xijun, the special representative of China for Afghanistan, was also present at the meeting. Both sides discussed expansion of cooperation.
The Afghan-owned peace, regional consensus on the reconciliation effort and stability in the region were among the issues discussed, he added.
Daudzai thanked China for cooperation in various areas and urged it to play an effective role in Afghanistan reconciliation and in forging regional consensus on it as good neighbour of Afghanistan.
He asked the government of China to step up support and facilitate negotiations between Afghan government and the Taliban.
The Chinese deputy minister welcomed the unprecedented progress made in the Afghan-owned peace process, saying his government was ready for any kind of cooperation in this regard.
He noted efforts to bring peace to Afghanistan had begun and the process required cooperation from regional countries. China was working to ensure talks between Kabul and Taliban, he concluded.
