South Korea donates equipment to Kandahar hospital

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): South Korea on Tuesday delivered equipment in aid to the Mirwais hospital in southern Kandahar province through the World Organization (WHO).

Inaugurating a 14-bed ward for communicable diseases in the provincial capital, Kandahar City, the Korean envoy to Afghanistan, health and business.

He said he would share the requests of the provincial administration and traders with their government for finding solutions to them.

Kandahar acting governor Abdul Hanan Munib, public health director Dr. Abdul Qayum Pukhla and other officials were also present during the handover ceremony of the medical equipment to Mirwais Hospital.

Munib said Korea had donated 36 types of medical tools to the surgical ward of the hospital through the WHO.

He said the tools included different machines, beds, wheelchairs and others that cost $380,000.

Munib thanked the Korean envoy for his country’s assistance with the hospital and said Mirwais Hospital offered health services on regional level and received victims of the war, traffic accidents and ordinary patients.

The new equipment would significantly help the surgical ward in treatment of patients, he said.

Meanwhile, a 14-bed ward for treatment of communicable diseases was also opened in the Mirwais Hospital.

Munib said the ward’s opening cost $90,000 donated by Korea through the world health body.

The Korean envoy also met with Kandahar traders.

The Kandahar governor asked the Korean envoy to build a standard hospital in the province as the current one was unable to cope with the increasing number of patients.

A number of Kandahar traders demanded relaxation in Korean visa and said the two countries had strengthened their business relations in recent past.
