Heavy snow, storm clog Kabul-Bamyan highway

BAMYAN/CHARIKAR-Bamyan highway in at least three districts of central Bamyan and Parwan provinces, officials said on Thursday.

Abdul Ahmad Mubariz, Bamyan’s Yakawlang district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News heavy snow and strong storms clogged the highway between Kotal Hajigak and Kotal Shato areas in the limits of Panjab and Waras districts yesterday night.

He said the snowfall that started on Wednesday still continued, reaching above 30 centimeters.

Mubariz said unfortunately a pregnant woman died due to closure of the highway in Kotal Haji Kag area.

According to him, the highway would remain closed until the bad weather subsided and a snow clearing operation launched.

The highway has also been closed by heavy snow in Siahgard district of Parwan province.

Noor Aqa Sami, the district chief, told Pajhwok people of the district could not go to Charikar, the provincial capital, due to closure of the road following heavy snow.
