MAIMANA (Pajhwok): An illegal commander who was allegedly accused of keeping private prison, extorting and harassing common people in the northwestern Faryab province has been detained by security forces, a statement from the Governor House said on Friday.
Commander Zabihullah who was heading 10 armed men in the seventh municipality district of Maimana, the provincial capital was detained by the National Directorate of Security (NDS) personnel, the statement said.
Commander Zabihullah established an illegal check post, created a private prison at his house, extorted and harassed common people.
The illegal commander along with two armed men was currently in the detention of security personnel.
According to the statement no powerful individuals could harass and torture common people in the future and the law would be equally implemented on all people.
But Rahim Rahmani, the relative of Commander Zabihullah, termed his relative detention a conspiracy and added the check-post he established was officially recognized and financially supported by the government.
He alleged Commander Zabihullah was detained because of his strong resistance against the Taliban.
