Key Haqqani network commander held in Nangarhar

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Intelligence operatives have detained a key Haqqani network commander in eastern Nangarhar province, an official said Thursday.

Attaullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the Haqqani Network commander was detained by special intelligence forces during an operation in the limits of Jalalabad City, the provincial capital, on Wednesday.

He said Mullah Mirwais alias Commander Kamran was involved in several destructive and terrorist attacks in Kunar province.

According to Khogyani, Mirwais led a 40-member insurgent group and was involved in several suicide attacks, kidnappings, killings and organizing attacks.

The Haqqani network has not yet commented in this regard.

According to another report, National Directorate of Security (NDS) personnel captured 31 Kalashnikovs, two pistols and a large number of pistol bullets during a raid in Momand Dara district.

Maj. Mohammad Haroon Yousufzai, spokesman for the 201st Selab Military Corps, said the weapons were seized from a house in Ali Jan Qala area of the district.
