KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology in coordination with the Ministry of Interior on Tuesday launched ‘Online Passport system’ through its Asan Khedmat to facilitate both applicants and the Central Passport Directorate (CPD).
The online passport inauguration was attended by MCIT and MoI ministers, Wolesi Jirga representatives, Office Of the President, Sayed Omer Sabor, head of Central Passport Directorate.
Representatives of Border and Interpol Police, Criminal Department, Consulate head of MoFA, Da Afghanistan Bank Director, High Government delegations, national and international media representatives were also in attendance.
“Online passport is a positive step towards developing the new technology management sector, said MCIT minister Shahzad Aryubi.
He added ‘one of the goals of the Asan Khedmat was to simplify and computerize the current public services and Online passport was considered a first and efficient step towards e-governance.
“Transparency is not applicable without technology and system and finally, with the help of Asan Khedmat team, we could equip the Passport General Directorate with the new technology.”
For his part, acting Interior Minister Massoud Andrabi said that recently the old systems were being replaced by new systems which were equipped with modern developed technology to help the government deliver public services.
The AsanKhedmat Specialist team after two years of many studies were abled to simplify and computerize the passport issuing system in which Online passport inducted.
Previously, the passport processes were lengthy, complicated and had obstacles and weren’t based on international standards and applicants would have to wait a minimum 10 days to get their passports.
The new passport system has the capacity to issues 10000 passports a day against previously 2000.
