KABUL insurgents, including several commanders and foreign fighters, have been killed in a security operation in northern Kunduz province.
The Ministry of Defense (MoD) said Afghan security forces conducted the operation, backed air support from NATO’s Resolute Support (RS) mission on Friday night.
It said 58 insurgents, including several notorious commanders, and four security personnel were killed and five others slightly wounded. A large weapons cache was destroyed
The statement added the security forces, who had encircled terrorist hideouts, would continue to fight until all rebel strongholds were eliminated.
Meanwhile, the 209thShaheen Military Corps confirmed the operation and said Taliban’s key commanders Qari Qayamuddin, Qari Yahya, Qari Amir, Zainullah, Obaid, Ehsanullah and Haroon were among the dead.
On the other hand, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed five foreign troops and 13 Afghan security personnel were killed.
Seven NATO forces and 11 Afghan security personnel were wounded in a clash in the Telawoka area of Kunduz City. He said only three fighters were killed in the clash.
