Khalilzad briefs NATO allies on Afghan peace efforts

KABUL Secretary General on the Afghan peace negotiations, a spokesperson for the alliance says.

Currently on a multi-nation trip as part of his efforts for facilitating the peace process in Afghanistan, Khalilzad met John Stoltenberg in Brussels on Thursday.

The meeting was part of regular consultations on the Afghan peace process, Oana Lungescu tweeted. The visiting envoy briefed NATO allies and Resolute Support partners on the ongoing efforts for peace in Afghanistan.

During his trip, Khalilzad will visit Afghanistan, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Jordan and Qatar from March 25 to April 10.

In Kabul, the US diplomat will consult with the Afghan government and other Afghans about the status of US talks with the Taliban and encourage efforts to form an inclusive negotiating team.

He would also discuss next steps in intra-Afghan discussions and negotiations, the US Department of State said in a statement this week.
