QALAT (Pajhwok): At least nine police personnel have been killed and seven other have gone missing as a result of an attack in Shar-i-Safa district of southern Zabul province.
A security source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident took place in Jildak area on Zabul-Kandahar highway on Friday night.
It said Taliban militant in police rank had killed nine policemen and seven other disappeared. The missing policemen might have surrender to rebels, the source added.
Taliban confirmed the overnight attack. The group’s spokesman Qari Yousaf Ahmadi claimed their fighter in police rank had gunned down eight policemen manning the check post and seven others surrendered to the rebels with weapons and ammunition.
