In a statement, the Kandahar governor’s house said the special forces from Kandahar conducted operations in Tirinkot, the capital of Uruzgan, killing 21 insurgents and arresting half a dozen more.

The statement said 21 rebel hideouts and two rooms were destroyed and 17 landmines, two pick up vehicles, two cars and six motorcycles and heavy and light weapons were confiscated during the raids.

It said the insurgents had been hiding in five residential homes where explosives were also found and defused.
