JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Nineteen Daesh or so-called Islamic State (IS) rebels have been eliminated in airstrikes in the Khogyani district of eastern Nangarhar province, the Ministry of Defense said on Monday.
A statement from the Ministry of Defense (MoD) said that during the past one month over 170 militants had been killed in Nangarhar province.
During the ongoing operation, multiple militants maneuvering with weapons to defensive fighting positions engaged security forces who responded with heavy machine gun fire and airstrikes, killing ten militants, the statement said.
It added, later during the operation, Afghan forces received heavy small arms fire, forcing Afghan Special Forces to respond with heavy machine gun fire and airstrikes, killing another nine militants.
