HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): More than 2,300 suspects have been arrested in connection with terrorist attacks, kidnappings and planting bombs in western Herat province during the past year, an official said Wednesday.
Jilani Farhad, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News 2,100 of the suspects had been held by police and 219 others by intelligence personnel and their cases had been referred to judicial organs for further investigation.
He said 1,853 residents of Herat had suffered at the hands of the detainees, from whom 51 weapons were seized.
He further added around 463 other suspected criminals were currently being interrogated by security forces.
Ghulam Sarwar, a resident of Herat city, the provincial capital, expressed his happiness over security forces efforts to control crimes.
A number of other residents held similar views and highly appreciated security forces efforts in this regard.
