QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): At least 32 security forces have allegedly surrendered to Taliban insurgents in the Bala Murghab district of northern Badghis province, an official claimed.
Bala Murghab district has been under the Taliban siege since last Wednesday.
Abdul Nasir Nazari, a member of provincial council, told Pajhwok Afghan News that 32 security forces joined the Taliban with arms late on Friday.
He said the firefight was still underway and the reinforcement was yet to be arrived in the district.
Badghis police headquarters refused to comment on the development.
Taliban spokesman Qari Yousaf Ahmadi verified that 32 security men joined the insurgents. Five other security personnel were killed and several others wounded after the rebels attacked district police headquarters, he claimed.
On the other hand, the Taliban stormed Ab Karmi district at around 9:00 pm on Friday night and managed to capture the district centre but security forces recaptured the district at 4:00 am in the morning.
