QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): The Taliban have been driven away after a brief capture of the Ab Kamari district in northern Badghis province, a local representative said on Saturday.
Abdul Nasir Nazari, the Provincial Council member, told Pajhwok Afghan News the Taliban stormed the district at around 9:00 pm on Friday night and managed to capture the district centre but security force retook the control at 4:00 am in the morning.
The Taliban set on fire the building of district centre and police station and took equipment with themselves, he said.
Nazari said security forces retreated to the mountains in the south and staged a counter attack and captured the district centre early in the morning.
Abdul Baes, the resident of locality, said the Taliban stormed the district and set on fire the district centre and police station.
Security officials in Badghis could not be reached for comment despite multiple contacts from Pajhwok.
Meanwhile, the Bala Murghab district was under the Taliban siege since Wednesday.
Abdul Aziz, another member of the Provincial Council, said around 50 security personnel were killed and injured in Bala Murghab.
