KABUL Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah has said it is the responsibility of all governments to stop using terrorism as a mean to obtain foreign policy objectives in order to fight terrorism, extremism and radicalization.

“We cannot realistically hope to de-radicalize all radicals, but can do a lot more collectively to minimize the chances of their hateful messages resonating with the public,” Abdullah said in his address at the World Economic Forum in Jordon.

The World Economic Forum began in Jordan on Saturday, addressing “new platforms of cooperation” for the Arab world, bringing together more than a thousand leaders of government, business, civil society, faith and academia.

Abdullah said supporting terrorism and extremism was counterproductive and harmful even for their supporter.

“Afghanistan is not an exception, where criminal networks abuse religion to justify their crimes. But we must not forget that Muslim armies and peoples in Afghanistan, Iraq and elsewhere do the bulk of fighting & render great sacrifices against terrorists.”

The CEO said through honest and effective collaboration between religious scholars, the media, civil society and governments, the evil of extremism and radicalization could be defeated. “The government of Afghanistan is committed to fighting terrorisms and all forms of radicalization,” he added.

Speaking at the opening of the event, WEF founder Klaus Schwab said shaping future needed new collaborative efforts. “We need platforms for cooperation.”

The speakers included King Abdullah of Jordan, Saudi Energy Minister Khalid Al-Falih and Antonio Guterres, secretary-general of the UN.
