JALALABAD (Pajhwok): At least seven playing children were killed and another eight wounded late Sunday when an unexploded mortar shell went off in eastern Laghman province, an official said.
Asadullah Dawlatzai, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the explosion happened in Basram locality of Mehtaralam, the provincial capital, shortly after 5pm.
He confirmed seven children were killed and eight others wounded in the blast. He said what caused the blast was not immediately known, but security forces were investigating the incident.
