PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): A renewed push for a political settlement to the Afghan conflict has spurred hopes for peace in the war-torn country, believes the Pakistani foreign minister.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi, speaking to to a delegation of Afghan politicians, academicians, journalists and businessmen on Wednesday, said no one could afford to miss the opportunity.
Qureshi conveyed Pakistan, highlighting Islamabad’s efforts to facilitate the ongoing peace process.
The minister hoped the progress achieved so far would lead to a result-oriented intra-Afghan dialogue.
Praising Pakistan’s role in facilitating the Afghan peace process, the delegation thanked the minister for his personal commitment, particularly his efforts to help build regional consensus on the issue.
The delegation floated proposals for building trust, strengthening political cooperation and enhancing trade and economic links between the neighbours.
For his part, Qureshi said Kabul and Islamabad needed to work closely to deepen people-to-people exchanges and steer the two counties and the region towards a brighter future.
