KABUL despite promises by Prime Minister Imran Khan, says the chief executive officer (CEO).
In an interview, Dr. Abdullah said: “Positive statements have been made, but there are many things that need to be done about mutual respect and recognition of bilateral sovereignty.”
Currently on a visit to Turkey, the CEO rold Anadolu Agency the Pakistani leader had made positive statements after coming to power last year.
“But there are many things that need to be done about mutual respect and recognition of the national sovereignty of countries,” Abdullah remarked.
“Afghanistan wants to live in peace without interfering in each other's internal affairs in the framework of mutual respect with neighbours,” the CEO said.
He believed Turkey could play a key role in boosting the peace process and stability in Afghanistan. He acknowledged Turkey’s efforts to improve ties between Pakistan and Afghanistan,
“Turkey clearly has economic and political power as it acts as a bridge between Asia and Europe. It can be effective in providing more coordination at regional level.”
Abdullah claimed the Afghans backed the peace process between the Taliban and the government in Kabul with the involvement of the US.
However, he explained, the Afghans were averse to a return to the Taliban government. “The people of Afghanistan want to preserve their gains and live in peace.”
He went on to ask the Taliban to cut relations with terrorist groups. The Taliban's support for al-Qaeda had triggered political and military interventions by the international community, he argued.
