BAMYAN (Pajhwok): Five pro-government fighters have been killed and nine others wounded in a Taliban attack in Behsud district of central MaidanWardak province, an official said on Sunday.
Abdul Rahman Tawfiq, the district’s administrative chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News the militants stormed check-posts in Kotal Nobat Ab area at 11pm on Saturday night.
He said five uprising group members manning a check-post were killed and nine others wounded. The injured were evacuated to the main district hospital.
According to Tawfiq, Taliban also suffered casualties during the firefight. But he did not give exact figures.
“We had received reports regarding possible attacks and shared the issue with the governor. However, no attention was paid to the issue,” he alleged.
“We were sleeping and suddenly gunfire took place and the situation was getting worse so we were forced to move to the neighboring village during the late night,” said a resident of the area.
About 10 families had fled the area due to the clash, Tawfiq claimed. The Taliban have not yet commented about the incident.
