QALAT (Pajhwok): At least 13 security forces have been killed and as many wounded as a result of a coordinated attack by Taliban in the Sorai district of southern Zabul province.
A security source, who declined to be named, confided Pajhwok Afghan News that the militants staged the attack on the district late on Wednesday night.
He said four policemen were killed and five others wounded. Nine other policemen, including a battalion commander, were killed and two others wounded on the way to the district, he added.
The source said the insurgents also suffered casualties in the ensuing clash but he did not give exact numbers.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed capturing the Sorai district center and inflicting casualties on many security personnel.
Meanwhile, Governor Rahmatullah Ziarmal tweeted that a fierce clash happened in the district last night. However, he denied the fall of the district.
