Simmons to quit as Afghanistan coach after WC

KABUL Cup 2019.

In an interview, Simmons said on Sunday he had communicated his decision to the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB).

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, he said: "I have thought about it and I have actually given the ACB my notice that I will not be renewing my contract,"

With his contract expiring on July 15, the Caribbean was appointed to the position in December 2017.

He believed the time was right for him to go as his task of helping Afghanistan reach the World Cup had been achieved.

He recalled "I signed up originally for 18 months and I think I have done a lot in this period. It is time for me to move on to something else now.”

Afghanistan’s entry into the World Cup was ACB's goal at the time of his appointment, the West Indian added.

“My goal is always to leave things better than when I joined: the way we practice, the way we think about the game, the way we assess other teams. I've tried to help the players in all those areas."

Regarding recent changes o the team, he said: "No, I was not aware of it. I was not given any reasons. It was the decision of the ACB and selectors."
