Ghazni’s Khwaja Omari district recaptured from Taliban

KABUL militants.

According to reports Khwaja Omari district was lost to the insurgents about a year back when the district chief, Ali Shamsdost and nine policemen were killed.

The Ministry of Defense and Ghazni governor’s house said the district’s center was captured from Taliban today morning.

Nahzatullah, a resident of Qala-i-Naw area of the district told Pajhwok Afghan News that Afghan forces launched operation against the militants in the district center today morning and were able to take its control around 9am.

He said many Taliban fighters were gathered around the district center and were fighting against Afghan forces.

Governor’s spokesman, Mohammad Arif Noori, said clearing operation against the Taliban was underway on the outskirts of Khwaja Omari district.

He said he had so far no information about casualties caused during the battle.

Taliban yet to comment on the regard.
