KABUL (Pajhwok): Thirty-seven people have been sentenced from 13 months to 11 years in prison by the appellate court for their involvement in drug and alcohol smuggling during the past one week.
A statement from the Counter-Narcotics Justice Center (CNJC) received by Pajhwok Afghan News said that the convicts had been arrested in connection with 26 drug smuggling cases and they were sentenced to jail by the primary and appellate courts of the center during the last one week.
The convicts arrested by detective and security organs from different parts of the country possessed three kilograms of heroin, more than 283 kilograms morphine, more than 1,144 kilograms of opium, more than a kilogram of crystal myth, more than 137 kilograms of hashish and 75 kilograms of chemicals.
The source said the convicts along with their cases were referred to CNJC for judicial investigations and prosecutors of the center decided about the cases after investigation and litigation.
Seven of the convicts including a woman were trying to traffic drugs in their stomachs and travel bags from Hamid Karzai International Airport to India, the source said.
This comes as 22 people involved in 17 drug smuggling cases were sentenced to different jail terms over the last two weeks.
