GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): An Afghan National Army’s brigade commander was killed in an insider attack on Wednesday in Qarabagh district of southern Ghazni province, the Ministry of Defense said.
A statement from the MoD received by Pajhwok Afghan News said the ANA’s 203 Thunder Military Corps 3rd bridge commander Col. Abdul Mubin Mujtaba was killed by an ANA officer who had links with Taliban militants.
The rogue officer was also killed, the MoD statement said.
Amanullah Kamrani, the Provincial Council deputy head, told Pajhwok Col. Mujtaba and some foreign forces were visiting the district for assessment of security situation when the insider attack happened.
He said three foreign forces were also wounded in the attack.
Meanwhile, President Ashraf Ghani condemned the killing of Col. Mujtaba in a statement that said “the enemies of the country could not challenge the bravery of the Afghan security forces by carrying out such attacks.”
