’10 civilians killed in Badghis airstrikes’

QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): A public representative in Wolesi Jirga or lower house of the parliament on Saturday said 10 civiliasn were killed and two others injured in two airstrikes in northwestern Badghis province.

Ziauddin Akazai, a lawmaker from Badghis told Pajhwok Afghan News that an airstrike in Akazai area of Bala Murghab district of the province caused civilian casualties around 2am Friday night.

He said seven civilians were killed and another was injured in the incident. Five of the victims were from a single family while three others were from another family, he added.

Akazai said that three civilians including a woman were killed and another wounded in a helicopter strike in Joi Khwaja area of the same district around 5:30pm on Friday.

He said that he did not know whether the attacks were conducted by foreign or Afghan forces.

He asked foreign forces and the Afghan government to be careful about civilian lives during their combat operations.

Local Badghis officials refused to comment about the incidents and civilian casualties.

Pajhwok tried to contact the Ministry of Defense for a comment on the regard, but failed.

Civilian casualties caused by airstrikes are also reported from other parts of the country.
