‘Trump’s remarks have hurt Afghan pride’

KABUL as deeply offensive to the national pride, values and dignity of the people.

In a statement on Wednesday, the party said Afghanistan was a proud country with a long history and free spirited people who have always laid down their lives to protect their independence, territorial integrity, sovereignty and honour.

On Monday, at a joint presser with Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, President Donald Trump made remarks that included references to “wiping out Afghanistan” from the map and the “killing of ten million people”.

The Peace and Moderation election team called the remarks deeply offensive to the national pride, values and dignity of the Afghan people. 

“We Afghans have partnered with the Americans in the fight against terrorism and have taken steps together to add a new chapter to Afghanistan’s history and its relationship with the world.  We have made immense sacrifices in this struggle as have our partners.”

“President Trump’s remarks are contrary to the values that underpin our partnership, national interests of and our mutual obligations as partners.

The Peace and Moderation Team, reflecting aspirations of the Afghan people, reiterated its full support for the ongoing peace process in Afghanistan.

It vowed to continue seeking an outcome that leads to an end to the war and establishment of durable peace in the country.
