EU, Pakistan condemn attack on passenger bus

KABUL on Wednesday strongly condemned the bomb attack on a passenger bus on the Kandahar-Herat highway.

At least 35 people were killed and 27 others wounded after a passenger vehicle struck a roadside bomb in western Farah province

The EU  condemned the attack. The union in a statement said, “This atrocity, in which at least 34 people, including women and children, lost their life, is yet another aggression against the Afghan people and their long-held desire for peace.”

Such an indiscriminate attack on civilians, which follows an attack on a vice-presidential candidate three days ago, undermines current efforts to achieve a durable peace, and mars the positive achievements of the intra-Afghan dialogue held in Doha earlier this month, where Afghan representatives, including of the Taliban, agreed on the need to reduce the number of civilian casualties to zero, the source said.

The European Union stands by the Afghan people in their desire for peace and conveys its sincere condolences to all those affected, the statement concluded.

A statement from the Pakistan embassy in Kabul said: “Our hearts go out to the innocent victims, many of them women and children.”

“We pray for the maghfirah of the deceased and extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims,” the statement added.

It said such inhuman acts of violence against innocent civilians were condemnable. “Pakistan condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.”

The Afghans deserved complete peace and tranquility in their country, the embassy said, adding Pakistan stood together with the government and people of Afghanistan in their efforts to defeat the scourge of terrorism in the region.
