GARDEZ (Pajhwok): At least 11 civilians have been killed in foreign and Afghan forces operation in the Zurmat district of southeastern Paktia province, the residents claimed on Monday.
Eleven people from two families are said to be killed in the overnight raid which took place in the Kalagano locality. The National Directorate of Security (NDS) rejected the residents’ claims regarding the operation.
Haji Qahir, the resident of locality, said four members of his family had been killed in the operation.
“Some were students who came to home on Eid holidays and some were teachers. My cousin who was an employee in the education sector was among the dead,” he said.
A reliable source in the Police Headquarters told Pajhwok Afghan News the dead persons were civilians.
Shafiullah and Hekmatullah were teachers at schools, Qari Inamullah was student at Madreasa, Rahatullah and Nasrullah were the Ghazni University students, Ansarullah was Paktia University student, Mohammad Asif was director at Dawlat Khan High School whiel Fida Mohammad Nasrullah and Fathullah were farmers, he said.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid also claimed security forces killed civilians during raid in Paktia.
However, the National Directorate of Security (NDS) has strongly rejected the killing of civilians in Paktia operation.
