ASADABAD (Pajhwok): A 13-member Daesh or so-called Islamic State (IS) group has joined the peace process in eastern Kunar province, the provincial governor said on Thursday.
Abdul Satar Mirzkwal told a gathering here that the former rebels also turned in their weapons to police.
He said the reconciling Daesh members would be provided security against their former colleagues.
The governor said IS rebels were under their siege and would be eliminated in near future.
Meanwhile, police chief Lt. Col. Shafiqullah Sahar told Pajhwok Afghan News the 13-member Daesh group had been active against government in Noor Gul and Shigal districts. They turned in 11 weapons.
Momin, one of the former rebels, said: “I joined the group three years ago with other friends. Now we have realized the aim of the ongoing conflict is only to kill Afghans.”
