KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): At least 21 Taliban insurgents have been killed and five others injured as a result of an airstrike and clashes in southern Kandahar province, an official said on Thursday.
Police spokesman Jamal Barakzai told Pajhwok Afghan News that foreign forces targeted two vehicles the militants were traveling in the Kena area of Maiwand district on Wednesday night.
He said 13 rebels were killed in the airstrike and their weapons destroyed.
Separately, four fighters were killed as a result of a clash with police in the Chishma area of Maiwand, he said, adding four insurgents were killed and five others wounded in a firefight with the security forces in Panjwai district.
The Taliban have not yet commented on the incidents.
