‘Injured Kunduz police chief is in stable condition’

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Police chief of northern Kunduz province is being treated at Bagram Base and is in stable condition, according to security sources on Monday.

The police chief for Kunduz province was wounded in a suicide bombing that struck a main square in the provincial capital last on Saturday evening.

The blast took place when security forces had gathered to defend the city from falling to the Taliban amid clashes with security forces.

Police chief Col. Manzoor Stanekzai was wounded and another 20 individuals suffered causalities in the incident.

The Taliban attacked Kunduz City early on Saturday from three sides and which triggered intense fighting between security forces and Taliban assailants.

Provincial Intelligence chief Gen. Sayed Amir Shah Sadat, told Pajhwok Afghan News Stanekzai was in stable condition and was treated at Bagram base.

“We have been told that the health condition of the Stanikzai is stable and he would retune to his duty in a month,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Ali, personal sector of provincial police chief, has also confirmed to Pajhwok that Manzoor Stanekzai has been under treatment in Bagram base and his left hand is injured.
