Peace cannot be achieved through elections delay, interim setup: Danish

KABUL (Pajhwok):  Second Vice President Mohammad Sarwar Danish on Friday stressed over timely elections and said the government wanted peace within democratic framework.

Danish expressed the view while addressing the 76 anniversary of Geneva Convention here. He said the Taliban attacked civilians, got them off the buses and tortured them.

Through the use of violence, the Taliban put pressure on the people and strengthened mistrust between the masses and the government.

After nine rounds of talks and agreement on peace deal in principles, US President recently called off talks with the Taliban.

According to Danish, the government was supporting peace talks within democratic framework but before any talks there should be ceasefire so that the environment for negotiation is provided.

He asked the international community to put pressure on the Taliban so the group could respect the international laws.

He made it clear that the formation of interim government and delaying of elections cannot bring permanent peace to the country.

Presidential Elections are scheduled to take place on September 28.
