Wolters, who is also NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), made the remarks while speaking to a select group of reporters on the sidelines of a military meeting of the alliance in Slovenia.
Afghan elections probably would not be perfect, but the 29-member alliance would try to make the vote as safe as possible, the American general was quoted as saying by VOA.
“At this very moment, the signal we send to our NATO partners is the US is committed, NATO is committed, and the mission still remains,” Wolters remarked.
Peace talks between the US and the Taliban collapsed last week when President Donald Trump said he had decided to cancel the negotiations in Qatar.
